What next to buy (sewing wise)?

You lot should know I like buying things.  However, I’m trying very hard not to buy anything, especially fabrics for the month of February.  Although I have slipped once (I’ll mention that later what fabric I bought!) – I have been quite good about it and I’ll refrain from doing any more fabric shopping until march (will probably go bananas by then.

I thought I’d share my thoughts on the next few purchases that I’ll be getting.

New rotary cutter – I currently have this one but I have issues with it when the safety cap slides down when I’m using it.  So I’m opting for a Fiskars.

T-shirt cotton fabric  _ I’ve been thinking of making a couple of t-shirts and think I’ve found a good source online.

screenshot-2017-02-12-13-45-59

Seamwork’s “Aberdeen” PDF – I’m thinking of using this pattern for my t-shirts.  I really like the collar/ v-neck detail on this and I presume (correct me if I’m wrong), I could shorten the sleeves to t-shirt length for our “hot Scottish days”.

Spotty fabric with a wine coloured crepe from cloth shop to make an occasion dress, then the spare spotty fabric will be use for detail on a nice top.  Sorry, no pictures at the moment but once I get the fabric, I’ll get them up OR get a Vlog done and really show off!

Dylan Dye for a denim skirt that I will be remaking from an old pair of pink jeans.  I have a pair of pink jeans, that I no longer wear.  A wee while ago I saw a feature in a sewing magazine that showed me how to turn an old pair of jeans into a skirt.  So I’m going to do that and then dye, yes dye the skirt red.  Why red?  I think I need a red skirt in my wardrobe.

Grading up on many patterns seems to be my objective at the moment.  It’s such a useful tool/skill to have and use.  So whilst watching a Cocowawa crafts YT vlog, (<<< link to that vlog right there!!) the lovely Ana was showing her favourite tools of her trade which included a Pattern Master.  I’m figuring it will be bloody useful and take some time out of grading up.

I’m actually trying to make space for another double billy from ikea, just to finally finish organising my sewing room – I think that will be the first purchase out of this lot.

Question is, with or without doors!!??

Thanks for reading and hope you enjoyed!

Sewing Inspiration – my #makenine2017 choices

For those of you follow me on Instagram, you may have seen my #makenine2017 choices. Don’t fear if you haven’t, I will show them on here too.  In fact right here, right now in this blog post.  I will probably give you a bit more detail to why I’ve chosen these patterns and also round up the fabric that I will use for them.

The patterns in the grid above are in no particular order. You may be aware that I’m already cutting out the Annabelle Dress 👗 (see a link to the blog post here).

But to make it easy to follow the grid I will start at the top left-hand corner and work my way down!

First off we have the Anna Dress from By Hand London.  This screamed out at me when I first saw this (yes, it really did scream at me) and ever since I’ve had it in my top ten pile to make. It has been waiting patiently to be printed out as it’s a PDF (I’ve bought a new USB stick for that job) and I still have to decide what fabric I want to pair with it. I’m still deliberating what length to have it: short or long, long or short – gahhhhh! Maybe I should just let another lovely project/ pattern take it’s place while I procrastinate?

Then it’s Tilly and the Buttons’ gorgeous “CLEO”.  I’ve seen so many fabulous versions on Instagram lately.  But I’ve also seen that it is quite short and tight at the hips so I may have to make it longer and take it out at the hips when I start cutting out the pattern.  I’m pairing the Cleo up with a blue Faux Suede that I bought at Edinburgh Fabrics (I’m pretty sure I may have said I’d use this for something else but I haven’t yet got the pattern for that project and I think the Cleo will look chic in faux suede!

*Update: Well maybe my second Cleo will be in the suede as I’m currently doing my first one in a gorgeous corduroy.

It’s another By Hand London and this time it’s Alix. I’m sure I saw it in Love Sewing Magazine a month or so ago and was on the “express pattern binge” within minutes of seeing it.  It’s a darling dress and I’m planning to pair this lovely drapey viscose from Fabrics Galore with Alix.

As I’m writing this post, Simple Sew’s Annabelle Dress lays waiting to be assembled on the back of the chair – but at least it’s all cut out and pieces are numbered.  It’s such a “me” dress, I love the “tea dress” sort of dress.  I love the floaty skirt and the off the shoulders finish.  EEEK super excited to get this together.  You’ll see a bit more on the current project here.

Update: it isn’t going to plan – 😤 not a happy bunny 🐰

Up next, it’s the Granville Skirt which was a fab collaboration between @simplysewingmag, @thatwendyward and @cicobooks.  I thought skirt, and thought of it straight away, which is good thing, right?  I’ve got so many pieces of fabric thing is going to be tough but it’s going to be this cotton that i bought from Biggar Stitches a wee while ago.

Now when I say I’ll make nine, it’s always going to be more than nine as I can never make a final decision.  I’m sure I’ll add and mix it up before the end of the year.  That’s why I’ve put two in one box!   First up is the Waterfall Jacket.  Another “free’ pattern from Simply Sewing Magazine and I’ve got lovely green wool for this, which from the Cloth Shop.  It looks super simple to do and because it’s a jacket I may make this after the Annabelle dress as it’s still pretty cool here in Edinburgh!

The Lisette pattern is now out of print, but somehow I managed to get one shipped all the way from OZ which is pretty cool.  It’s called the traveller dress and I’m hoping to wear it whilst jetting off if we go away abroad this year.  Thinking Chambray for this one as it’s light and easy to wear whilst travelling.

MMmmmm I’m now looking at the Bardot and the Annabelle Dresses and don’t they look similar?  They do, don’t they?  Or is it me? Ok, I may scrap Bardot until later on in the year so another special pattern can have it’s use in my #makenine2017.  So it’s place (sorry Bardot)  I’m going to have Jennifer Laurens’ Ivy Pinafore in version A.  With that I’ve got some gorgeous burgundy corduroy from myfabrics.co.uk.

I definitely need to make a top or two and look behold another free pattern – well not really free as the sew now mag issues threadcount patterns and this didn’t go up into my size which is really ultra annoying.  So at least they offer another pattern at a hefty discounted price – which kinda makes it’s some what more bearable! (Moan now over) Ooooh now this needs fabric for this -eeeek!  I have my very own little fabric stash (yeah, you know it’s not little by any means as I keep blabbering what I get weekly!  I am my worst enemy when I need to keep quiet about fabric!)  You can tell me a secret however and I will keep stum, providing it’s not breaking the law!  My fabric choice to go with McCalls 7360 is a luscious ….

Finally it’s Sew Over It’s “Ultimate Shift Dress” and it’s fabric that came in the kit. Why not use that. It’s a lovely drapey viscose which will suit the dress perfectly. I think I got this kit with a magazine subscription yonks ago.  It’s been lying in my fabric stash for ages and didn’t take much notice until last month when I decided to open the actual box! Yes believe it folks – it was a FREE kit and it was left unopened for YONKS!!  I love the simple shape of this and hopefully once I’ve done this I can move swiftly on to making the Heather Dress!

So what will I do with number one? Mmmm,  I think I will do the Grain Line “Scout Tee” – which I spotted in the eternal maker made with this lovely cotton. Of course they were out of stock of the pattern, so I “had” to order it. I bought the fabric there and then. I think this would be a nice cool tee for the summer. Anna will be made, just not right now. I want to get the right fabric for her.

I’m aiming to get a few pieces made pronto so I can make the Moneta Dress by Colette and the Brooklyn Skirt by Seamwork. There’s always more patterns that are on the priority list and that’s the Heather Dress by Sew Over it, The Washi Dress from Made by Rae, the adorable “Ritz Dress” by Till the Sun goes down, oh gee the list phenomenal… I’m sure you know ha ha!

I’m not too sure if this will be my final choices for make nine as I don’t want to be stuck doing something I may change my mind on.
You may notice I’ve already done a couple of updates and this post will probably get more updates if I change my make nine any further! Stay tuned. I will mention on my social media with the link to the post if I have!  This post should of been out long before now. Not quite sure how it got  abandoned but it’s out and it gives you a somewhat rundown of a possible make nine 2017.

Hope I’ve not rambled on too much but if I have I hope I’ve not confused you or bored you to tears!

My favourite blogs of the month: February

This feature is new.  Yes, Brand spanking new on my blog.

Why?  Well, clearly it’s quite cool (in my opinion) to share a blog that you may or may not know about.

This month I’ve decided to share with you Sea Salt & Stitches blog.  It’s brand new to me and I love her style!

Little Miss Lorraine (another new favourite!) mentioned her via a blog post all about bullet journaling (something I’m trying out myself, Thanks to these two and Holly Dollie) and I suddenly on her website within a flash.  Yes. A FLASH!

I’ve also had a sudden explosion organisation.  This involves coming up with a lot of blog post being named via my #makenine2017 list (which is soon to be released!) and some other projects, both selfish and selfless.  Plus splurges (fabric and sewing related pieces) and “Sew Shop Local” features.  This sudden explosion has definitely got to do with the idea of bullet journaling.  I think this is going to be an interesting journey.  I feel both inspired and empowered seeing the origin of the Bullet Journal.

screenshot-2017-02-15-14-32-39
Just a snippet of what’s in the pipeline!

You get I’m all excited about the Bullet Journal, don’t you?

Anyhow enough of that talk because there will be a fully loaded blog post coming very soon to your screens with my version.

Sea Salt & Stitches‘ has lovely tutorials also.  I’m looking forward to trying a couple out – particularly the Christmas apron and the flower pot pincushion!

The dresses that Suzie has made have a similar taste in what I want to be able to achieve. They are all gorgeous.  My favourite dress is the tartan washi’s – perhaps that’s the wee Scottish girl calling out of me!  The washi dress is definitely on my top 20 and by the looks of it, it’s now a firm favourite!

screenshot-2017-02-15-14-35-52
Very keen to try this beauty of a dress out!

The blog site is nice and clean, easy to navigate and quite delightful!

Little Miss Lorraine is another recent addition to the blog reading list.  I found her blog because I subscribe to her YT channel, which is one of my favourite channels to watch.

Her blog also features her Etsy shop where you can buy her handmade items – which are all lovely, so lovely it’s quite difficult to decide which one to get!

LML’s YT channel is a delight to watch and so is her blog.  It took me a while to actually click that she has a blog (don’t worry it’s me, not you LML!), I’m sometimes a bit slow to catch on!

Another very informative sewing blog with lots of things to keep you entertained for hours!

Last but not least, is the delightful Hollie Dolly.  Again, I was slow to click on that she had a blog also.  I think that has a lot to do with the number of ideas I want to do.  Seriously I am OCD with ideas for this, that and the other lol.

Anyhow, Holly Dollies’ site is quirky featuring what’s she has made and her latest fabric hauls.  I can’t get over how smiley she is on camera – she is so sweet!

So that’s a wee scoop into why these are my favourite blogs this month … Now, how many will I come across before next month lol!

Sew Shop Local: Kitschy Coo

“A shop full of Jersey?” I said back to the lady who told me all about it.  I couldn’t believe what I was hearing and I knew I had to go and check it out.  So I did.  And here’s what I found out!

Kitschy Coo do their main business on the internet but it does have a cute little shop that you can pop into (I dropped Amanda an email, just to check her opening hours to be on the safe side) and see the stunning collection of jersey for yourself.  The shop is based on 10 South Trinity Rd and it’s got a good bus link if you prefer to take public transport as car spaces are few and far between even though they are pay & go spaces.

I took the bus from outside the old St James shopping mall entrance.  A no.8 if I’m correct. It took no more than 10 mins and didn’t have the stress nor cost of parking.

It’s a cute little shop front, you can see the jersey headbands and hats in the window along with some pretty cool fabric combos.  I know I’m in for a treat!

Greeted by a barking Casey (the dog)  I waited a minute whilst Amanda moved Casey through to the back room.  I don’t mind dogs as I’ve had my own.  Casey didn’t batter an eye lid, once she was in the back room and I could wander around the shop freely.

Right, the moment you’ve all been waiting for – JERSEY TALK!  Kitschy Coo: It is a delightful treat. Looking and feeling these magnificent fabrics just brings happy feelings.  So many ideas have sprung into my head regarding the Toaster sweater, Linden and Moneta to name a few.  I thought stepping into the #sewmystyle with the Toaster sweater was a bit ambitious for me as I’ve never used a knit fabric and not set up my overlocker.  I think once I’ve finished Cleo I’ll attempt the Moneta.   Ok, I’m wandering off on project thought talk … I’m guessing you’ve had a look at the shop online by now and you’ll get a gist of what an awesome collection Amanda has.

I bought a delightful cacti fabric, but not enough to make a whole Moneta – perhaps the bodice or now a sweatshirt … oooh, the conundrums.

Amanda was super helpful too as she gave me a link for that elastic to get to stop Jersey from slipping and a charcoal fabric that may match up with the cacti if I decide to go with the Moneta – or should I go all out Moneta Cacti?

Kitschy Coo has a Facebook, Instagram, twitter and Pinterest if you need more Jersey porn!

Check out the fabulous combinations! Eeeek!

What I love: January

I’ve been finding so many things recently that I thought I might as well share them with you too! So much so, I’ve decided to do a monthly thing!

Ok so first up is the tailors’ ham and sausage! I didn’t realise how useful they are until I used them myself and further more I want to make a pair. So I found a pattern from Jennifer Lauren Vintage and now planning that into my projects!

screenshot-2017-02-02-21-51-27

Other sewing related items to make are pattern weights and a pin cushion!  Ok, I’m torn between these macaron pattern weights and my own handmade ones! I could have both? You can never have enough pattern weights, can you?

So that’s a few more things I have to get on & make and I can’t wait to show you!

I’m loving the sound of the #monetaparty by @sewpositivity on Instagram. The Moneta pattern by Colette has been in my stash for yonks and it’s been a firm favourite since seeing so many vlogs featuring it.

screenshot-2017-02-02-21-53-56

One Vlog in particular, caught my attention and that was Gingerthread girl‘s version of Moneta. I’m definitely raising the waistline as I prefer a higher waist line and suit it. I’ve been tagged so I think it’s only right to join in with everyone!  I’ve bought three bits of jersey for Moneta in mind – yes three.

Tilly and the Buttons book, “Love At First Stitch” is getting me all excited as the pictures and details for each project are simple to follow.   I asked for the book for my birthday, which my lovely Bro bought for me!  However, there will be a lot of grading up as the pattern size of a 20 ain’t going to fit around my hips!  It’s one that I’m going to work through from the first project to the last.  It’ll do me the world of good!

screenshot-2017-02-02-22-00-26

That being said I’ve already graded up Cleo and sewing that up as we speak (ok it’s not in LAFS but at least it’s one of my make nine 2017).  Yes, I’m a bit slow to catch the Cleo train but I can’t wait to see how it turns out!  There will be a post about this separately when it’s finished!

Editing my first vlog is taking way longer than expected but I am getting there and I am learning as I go – so all in all, it’s getting there.

I’m not loving the Anabelle dress at the moment as I’ve had to rip the seams a few times. And I think it’s way too small – eek & BOOOOO!  I’m going to leave the LRD for a while as there are plenty of projects that I need to get on with AND FINISH.

So with January being over, it’s time to think what I’m going to be doing in February.  I must start using my stash.  So this month I’m going to rein in my splurges on fabric. I know I said that in January but there were too many sales going on and it got the better of me!  February can be that month where I indulge in my stash (AND TRY AND NOT BUY ANYTHING) and really start using it as it’s starting to get to extreme levels!

goodbye-january-hello-february

Hope you’ve had a more productive January than I have!

Sew let’s shop: My favourite online sewing shops.

Let’s face it, we are truly lucky to have so many fabulous online fabric shops these days, offering us loads of gorgeous fabrics.

In this blog post, I’d thought I should share my top 5 with you and why they are my favourite.  By the way, they are in no particular order because they are all splendid in their own way!

imgres-1Fabric Godmother’s website for me is well laid out for me, making fabric easy (or too easy in my case) to find.  It’s clean and crisp, just how I like websites.  I’ve bought a couple of pieces of fabric and have been very happy with them.  I still have them in my stash and this is a running theme – 2017 has to shake me up to make them into beautiful garments!

http://www.fabricgodmother.co.uk/

images-1

For me, Guthrie & Ghani has a lovely style.  I spend hours browsing the fabrics on the website.  Just recently I bought some lovely cotton with hot air balloons, which I’m looking into making a nice dress for summer with. Whilst writing this post up, I had a quick browse and spotted some gorgeous striped jersey (perfect for a coco) but will have wait until pay day as all my fabric allowance is used up!

https://guthrie-ghani.co.uk/

images

It’s name speaks volumes.  Boy, does this website have loads to choose from!  On more than one occasion I’ve bought something special.  Yes, yet again it’s still in the fabric stash but I have an idea for each piece bought!  I bought my Houndstooth jersey from here and it’s going to be perfect for a dress!

http://www.fabricsgalore.co.uk/

images

An emporium not by half.  Still good quality fabric at a good price too.  I’ve managed to get a couple of bargains in the sale too, which I’m pretty chuffed about. But their site sometimes goes all weird on me and doesn’t load which is annoying!  Still,l the fabric is pretty good for what you pay for 😀

https://www.fabricland.co.uk

imgres

Oooooh! I love scrolling over and seeing what Lisa and her team have chosen in the New section fabric wise.  There’s just so much gorgeous lovely fabric to choose from!  I’ve recently joined the PDF club too.  It’s only a £5 for the whole year, with that you get to choose a free PDF and first to know of any new PDFs released!  I adore her patterns too – yes I still have to make the ones I have – now that’s a surprise (NOT!).

http://sewoverit.co.uk/

images-1

Okay I know I’ve gone over my top 5 but this lovely shop can give the others a run for their money.  Sewn, which is based in Bristol has a beautiful website of a wonderful collection of fabric.  I just hope I get the chance to go and visit someday!  Bought some fabric too, which was in the sale (OOOOOPS)!

http://www.sewnbristol.co.uk/

imgres-2

I found out about the textile centre via Lizzie B on her YT channel.  I have to go and check it out since she showed off her jersey for her TATB Coco Dress (YES, I bought yet more fabric)  Also since this is new to me I thought I would share this one with you too.  Really good quality fabrics and the price isn’t bad either!

https://www.thetextilecentre.co.uk/

So there you go, my top 5 (and more) online shops for fabric.  I’m going to be sharing my fabrics that I’ve recently bought in a vlog (yes I said vlog). It will probably be the second vlog as I’m editing my first vlog which is to released very soon!  My vlog channel is SEW DO IT EMMA’s VLOG – be sure to subscribe if you don’t want to miss any vlogs!

Sewing Inspiration: Wrapped Up

Ever since I received Simple Sew’s Lena Wrap Dress pattern with this month’s issue of Love Sewing Magazine I’ve been drooling all over wrap dresses … it’s only been a few days since the start of the affair!

img_0566
I’ve been on loads of websites like TopShop, Simply Be and White Stuff as well as good old Pinterest to get inspiration and see what fabrics have been used.

I have a warning though ⚠️ – there are a lot of pictures here and I have tried to give credit where I got the image!

Ok, now the fun bit!  Me talking what inspires me about each picture!

I love this velvet dress for all the reasons that it is a velvet wrap dress – I love the colour, it’s a gorgeous pastel pink and with it being velvet, it’s going to be warm! That a big tick in my book!

Processed with MOLDIV
I stumbled on this pattern and I have to honestly say it’s going straight onto my patterns to get list! It just speaks to me for a summer holiday! Cue Cliff Richard … 🌞🏄🏻‍♀️

Processed with MOLDIV
I’m not sure that this is still available to date but it’s a great variation on the wrap dress!

Processed with MOLDIV

Burda has a great offering, particularly those who want that velvet wrap dress … eeeek another one on that list! I’m really needing to do a #maketwenty2017 list rather than a #makenine2017 list at this rate!  But hang I think this may be a too clingy fit for me so I’ll hold ma horses!

Processed with MOLDIV

This wrap dress has a gorgeous dress, I’ve still to see if it’s still available or if there is an alternative … stunner of an occasion dress (maybe Christmas 🎄)
Processed with MOLDIV

Sew Over It’s Lisa Comfort looks so glam in her version of the wrap dress. I could and probably will add her Ultimate Wrap Dress to my collection soon – no surprises there then!

Processed with MOLDIV

This dress was pull from my Pinterest feed and I adore the colour and the drape – but wondering what fabric it is! Any ideas?

Processed with MOLDIV

Now when I first saw this image on Pinterest I thought it was “Carrie” from “Sex and the City” but on closer inspection, I don’t think it is.  But wow the wool looks good on a wrap dress, such a different structure and so elegant!

Processed with MOLDIV

This Pleated version from Topshop is gorgeous!  Can you tell I’m immediately drawn to berries and wine colours?  I had to look really closely as I couldn’t believe it was velvet – until now I didn’t think it was a thing.  WOW!

Processed with MOLDIV

A really nice floral wrap dress and it’s from Simply Be.  I don’t normally shop in Simply be as I’m not a fan of most of the materials that they use in the clothes.  But I like the shape and colour of this dress.  Probably I’ll like it until I feel it!

Processed with MOLDIV

I really like the cut on this one.  I think this be viscose as it looks quite drapey, although I could be wrong!

Processed with MOLDIV

Ooooh!  Something to mix it up – a long wrap dress (which is quite similar to the simplicity pattern I showed you earlier.  This could be ideal for going out or a wearing it on a cool summer night!

Processed with MOLDIV

I was a bit mixed about using this image as it’s a bit booby!  But I like the deep red fabric. If I ever get a low cut like this then a cami goes on underneath to protect my dignity! Possibly a crepe mix? Jersey?

Processed with MOLDIV

This floral version is from White Stuff.  It’s quite different from the picture above and it’s something I would consider age appropriate for myself and not booby!

Processed with MOLDIV

This slit is a bit high in this one but I like the light-weight fabric that has been used.  The longer sleeves are a plus too.

Processed with MOLDIV

I hope you’ve enjoyed my commentary all about wrap dresses and maybe given you some inspiration.  Hopefully, you’ll get an insight of what kinda style I’d go for and possibly colour.  I think Lena will be making an appearance pretty soon – It’s safe to say this affair is going pretty viral!

Sewing: That Little Red Dress

img_0420-1

With the run up to Christmas and so little time to do any sewing, I’ve not managed to even start on this dress.  I’m sorry.  I am quite disappointed.

I am intending to make it for my birthday night out, which is at the end of January.  There should be more than enough time to do it for then.  I have all the materials and decided on the pattern finally.  I know, It’s like a month behind but better late than never!

All the dress reveals have been amazing.  I’ve been trying to keep up with all the blogs/vlogs and Instagram reveal as they are released but I’m sure I’ve missed a few!

2017 is going to be there my sewing room will be put to use.  I intend to also start a vlog and I’m looking into that as well.  So you know that the reveal of #thelittlereddress will probably be aired on youtube!  I’m super excited but also very nervous.

The Pattern

imgres

This is the final decision as I’ve been indecisive when it came to patterns before now.  This has been a firm favourite for a few weeks so it will be getting cut tonight (so no flippin changing my mind now!).

Because it’s labelled relaxed fit and I love the shoulder details, it’s “tea dress” skirt and the waistband (there are too many reasons why I shouldn’t change my mind now!) this pattern is rocking my world.  I’ve got the material and all the notions, so I’m going to get cutting it tonight.  I’ll give you an update as I go!

The Material

31387084395_a7af805a3e_m

Beautiful red satin from Edinburgh fabrics – you’ve seen this before in my last fabric haul post.

So there’s my plans for the little red dress/ birthday dress (see smart goals) … As I said, I’ll update you with proof that I’ve cut it out and pinned it!

See you soon!

Emma

Update 3/1/17

Pattern pieces cut out!

Where do I Start?

I’m scratching my head as I really want to start doing a vlog that runs alongside my blog. There are so many beautiful sewing vloggers out there I would like tips on where to start and how to do one.

I’ve watched several YouTube videos on how to do it. But I’m still struggling to look and sound streamlined – do you do it in one take? Or is in several little takes and cleverly edited together?

After filming myself several times in one take, I’m coming to the conclusion I need to take bite takes and mould them into one.

Also when your looking into your iPhone/ iPad, you look at the little lens rather than the screen? I’m thinking I should be looking at the lens! Am I right?

With so many questions am asking myself how much time do you put into your own vlog before you publish them? How long does it take to film and the edit? What editing apps do you use if you use an iPad or iPhone.

I have an dslr camera and a tripod which I could set up instead of the iPhone/iPad.

I’m thinking of using the vlog to be interactive with the patterns and fabric I choose for my projects. I’ll also pass on any tips that I’ve found useful and with that maybe show you any new things that I’ve bought. On top of that, a sewing room tour would definitely be top of the list and details of how I organised my space would also be available. When I’ve made my makes I can show them off by giving them a twirl and give my pros, cons and findings.

Of course, I still keep blogging – but the vlog would be that little extra. It’s just going to take a little time to bring it altogether but any tips would be really appreciated from experienced bloggers&vloggers!

Thank you for reading and Happy New Year to you all xx

SEWING: SMART GOALS FOR 2017

So, a few days ago I added a picture on my Instagram, showing off the projects I intend to do in 2017.

Processed with MOLDIV

As you can see there is still space for another two patterns/projects but I’m still deciding which ones from my stash – yes I’m trying not to buy any patterns.

I get quite a few free patterns from my sewing magazine subscriptions.  I have 4 – yes four! It’s definitely one, two many, so I’m deciding which one I don’t need.  It’s actually harder than I thought.  It’s like going through a break-up.  Which one should I ditch?   They overlap each other on some degrees, so I have to make a decision. Geez, it’s tough!

Right, back on to the free patterns, yes I have a good stash of patterns, paid and free and I ought to put them to the test and also put myself to the test of actually making a few things.  So the Granville skirt and the waterfall jacket (free with this issue 25 simply sewing mag) are on the planner.  Simple Sew’s Bardot dress (free with love sewing) is also up there (I swear I’m going to make this red dress, even though it might be past it and out of season!).  Sew Over It’s Ultimate Shift Dress is finally up there too.  If anyone knows of any exercises to get rid of middle fat on hips (FAST) – please let me know – it will avoid me altering the patterns hugely.  That being said, I’m going to hit the swimming pool this year to try and work it off.

There I go again … always going off piste with the chat!

On the topic of SMART goals and because it’s actually the title of this blog post here are my SMART goals for early 2017.

Next topic, fabric.  Urghhh Ummm, yes I have a confession.  I bought fabric in December when I specifically said I wouldn’t.

Moving on swiftly – ha ha  …

Vlog time.  I’ve been canoodling over this for a wee while.  I’ve done a rough draft (yes it was fairly rough as I bed head and I was still in my pj’s so that’s not going to go viral) so next is to re-do it and get a little less uncomfortable with the camera.  That way I can show you the latest fabrics and talk you which projects I’m going to try in January/February.  See what I did there RE: Moving on 😀

I’ve set up my YouTube channel – you can, of course, subscribe to it so, you instantly get notifications of when the first vlog goes live!

I got a few sewing goodies for Christmas too – one of which was on my last blog that I did and that was the sleeve board! My Brother In Law wasn’t too sure about getting me this as he thought it was too do housework but I said it’s fine it’s for sewing!
